Happy 177th Birthday Rodin!

Happy 177th Birthday Rodin! Francois Auguste Rene Rodin was born in Paris on November 12th, 1840.
The French sculptor is known as the progenitor of modern sculpture. Even though much of his work was criticized during his lifetime, today he is considered to have been one of the greatest artists in world history.

And while Rodin was tremendously talented, he did not enjoy much luck in love. After marrying his long-time lover – Rose Beuret – in January 1917, his wife died only three weeks after their wedding. He was also involved in a passionate affair with Camille Claudel, who was an inspiration to the artist, but she was diagnosed with a mental illness and spent several years in an asylum. Their relationship is considered to have inspired Rodin’s creations such as “The Kiss”.

Francois Auguste Rene Rodin would have been 177 years old today, and on this special occasion, we have gathered some of his finest works to show you.
